POLICY

It is the responsibility of management to establish and maintain adequate standards, policies, procedures, work practices and to maintain buildings and equipment as necessary to provide a safe working environment. Management will also ensure that supervisors are instructed and trained these various requirements.

It is the responsibility of every person with a supervisory function to ensure that employees are trained in and comply with established company policies and procedures. Supervisors will conduct regular inspections, hold safety meetings, participate in accident investigations, report health and safety concerns to management, and follow any other duties required to maintain the utmost site health and safety. Most importantly, every supervisor will set a good example, by following all established safe work policies and procedures, and consistently enforcing company policies.

It is the responsibility of every employee to follow established company policies and procedures, to work in a safe manner, and to report health and safety concerns to their supervisor.

It is the responsibility of employee health and safety representatives and any site health & safety committee to promote safe work practices and conditions, and to assist in creating a safe workplace environment by recommending actions which will improve the effectiveness of health and safety efforts at each project.

Properly communicating is a critical factor on many projects. The purpose of status reporting is to manage the expectations of the sponsor and the stakeholders. In many cases where conflicts arise, it’s not because of the actual problem, but because the client or manager was surprised by it. Managing expectations through status reporting will keep such surprises from happening.

At a minimum, all projects should communicate status. The status process should include team members sending status updates to the project manager and the project manager sending status updates to management stakeholders. On a small project, the status update might be informal, but as your project gets larger, it should become more formal, taking the form of a Status Report.
